The Department for Education (Dfe) have published a new Keeping Children Safe in Education 2016 document. This statutory guidance came into force on 5 September 2016.

The guidance is organised into four main sections covering:

  1. Safeguarding information for all staff
  2. The management of safeguarding
  3. Safer recruitment
  4. Allegations of abuse made against teachers and other staff

There is also a lot of helpful information around safeguarding policies and what they should include in order to ensure they are effective.

The changes are not dramatic, but there are some areas that have greater emphasis than in the past.

This document is aimed primarily at Schools and Colleges, however we feel that it is just as important that ASA Approved Centres are aware of the guidance.

There are a number other areas within the documents where changes have been made.

We advise reading through all of the guidance because you may also want to update to your existing safeguarding policy to reflect the changes in the guidance.
